Our RSS News Feed will send any new article posted on our front page to you. After we posted the new article or content, you will know within minutes. All you need to take advantage of our RSS Feed is program that is RSS aware. I suggest Mozilla's E-mail client called Thunderbird. Thunderbird is a free program. That you can download by clicking here: Download Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird has become my favorite e-mail client program. At this point, Microsoft does not make any programs that make use of RSS. Mozilla also makes a web browser that is called Firefox: Click here to download. Firefox can also receive RSS content, though Thunderbird offers more features for this function. As a web browser, I find Firefox far superior to Microsoft's Internet Explorer and I was a long time Internet Explorer user. I suggest you try it out. It is free also. I will walk you through the Thunderbird setup and the Firefox setup. Click here to jump to the Firefox setup.
Here is how to set up our RSS feed in Mozilla Thunderbird:
1. Install Mozilla Thunderbird after downloading it. The install should walk you right through it. 2. Visit our front page at www.overcomerministry.org. 3. Scroll down the page and look to the left for the "Syndicate" section. 4. There are 4 options that will work for Thunderbird: The 3 versions of RSS and Atom 1.3. I suggest using the latest RSS Version: RSS 2.0  5. Click on RSS 2.0 Your web browser will go to page with xml code on it. (It will look a little strange; nothing went wrong.) NOTE TO FIREFOX USERS: If you are using Firefox as your browser you can right click on RSS 2.0 instead of left clicking. Choose COPY LINK LOCATION. Then skip to step 6 below. (Ignore this if you are using Internet Explorer or some other browser and go to the next step.)
6. From the page with the XML code on it, go to the address bar above and highlight the entire address and right click and choose COPY.
7. Launch Mozilla Thunderbird.
8. Click on TOOLS > ACCOUNT SETTINGS. (If this is your first time launching Thunderbird, the "Account Settings" Screen will pop up on its own.)
9. On the "Account Settings" Screen, Click on ADD ACCOUNT. This will start the "Account Wizard" that will guide you through setting up your Overcomer RSS Feed Account.
10. Click in the circle to the Right of "RSS News & Blogs." Then Click NEXT.
11. On the next screen you choose the name of the account. It defaults to "News & Blogs." It can be any thing you want: "My News," etc. Click NEXT.
12. Then next page congratulates you for setting up the account. Click FINISH.
13. You should have now returned to the "Account Settings" page. Look to the left side of that page and click on "News & Blogs" or whatever you named the account that you just created.
14. On the right side, you can choose how often Thunderbird will check your News Feed sites for new headlines to download. You can have it check for new content each time you open Thunderbird. You can also decide if Thunderbird will only download an article summary instead of the entire web page. (Make the choices that suit you.)
15. Click on MANAGE SUBSCRIPTIONS button. This will open the "RSS Subscriptions" box.
16. Click the ADD button.
17. Right Click in the "Feed URL:" box and choose paste. This should paste the link location you copied from our page into that field.
Click OK. Thunderbird will now verify the link and download new RSS content.
18. When it is finished, you will see "Overcomer Ministry Headlines" appear as an RSS feed in the "RSS Subscriptions" screen. Click OK.
19. You should have now returned to the "Account Settings" page. Click OK.
20. Your should now receive our RSS feed.
You can now set up other feeds if you choose. Many news sites offer them like the Associated Press and BBC News.
Here is how to set up our RSS feed in Mozilla Firefox:
1. Download and install Firefox. 2. Use Firefox to go to our front page www.overcomerministry.org3. Look for the RSS Live Bookmark icon  on the bottom right side of the browser's status bar. 4. Click on the RSS Icon and click on the pop up choice that says 'Subscribe to Overcomer Ministry Headlines'. 5. Next choose where to save the Live Bookmark. 6. I should default to "Create in:" Bookmarks. I like to the Live feed on the Bookmark Toolbar. To do this Click on the Down arrow to the far right of the "Create In" field and Choose BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR FOLDER. 7. Click OK. 8. A book mark will now appear in the place that you saved it every time we add a new article to our front page. |
